    Multi-Factor Authentication of student login

Like many online services, we use Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) to keep student data as secure as possible, when accessing the university portal, app, email, Office 365 etc. Students are prompted to set up MFA when their status changes from applicant to student (pre-enrolment) in our system.

This transfer from applicant (where an agent has been involved) to student has proven to be problematic in cases where the student themselves do not always have access to the authentication account used to initially register the students access to the Applicant Portal.

To avoid issues (essentially students being locked out of their own accounts) please share the following guidelines:

    1. Students must set up MFA themselves using their own mobile phone. If you set this up on their behalf, they will not be able to login to University systems without access to your phone.

    2. If getting a new SIM card on arrival in the UK, set up the Microsoft Authenticator app as the default method of authentication. Even with a new SIM card, the app will continue to work. Many students set up a text message as their default method which of course stops working when the phone number changes.

    3. Set up more than one authentication method – to ensure they can login if they forget their phone or have no reception.  You can change your default MFA method and add additional sign in methods such as email or security questions on the Microsoft ‘My SignIns’ page.

    4. Watch our video https://youtu.be/92kpdj4Yx0k

£1000 will be paid as a flat fee for direct applicants who then contact C2C to seek assistance with applying for a student visa.

24/08/2022

Following our email last week notifying of the closure of MSc Business & Management and MSc International Business to new January 2023 applications, we are now able to give a further update on all other postgraduate courses.

All January 2023 Postgraduate Masters courses (full time, on-campus) will close to new applications from 12 midnight UK time, today, Wednesday 24th August.

Applications received prior to this will be processed over the coming week, unless they are for one of the following courses:

  • MSc Business Analytics
  • MSc Data Science for Business
  • MSc Marketing Analytics

Students who have already applied for these 3 courses, but have yet to receive a decision, will unfortunately no longer be processed for January 2023. Admissions will shortly send a communication to these applicants to say we can alternatively consider for September 2023 entry, if applicants request a start date change in their applicant portal.

Applicants who already have their offer of a place for January 2023 are unaffected by this change.

Deposit Deadline

Offer holders for January 2023 currently have a deposit deadline in their offer of 28thNovember 2022. This will now be changed to Monday 10th October. Funds should reach the University by this date. Admissions will send communications to offer holders in September to notify them of the deposit deadline date change.

We will start issuing CAS letters three months before the start of the January 2023 intake.

September 2023 and Tuition Fee Deposit

We are now open to applications for the September 2023 intake, and will commence processing offers by 1st September 2022. There will be a slight change in the required Tuition Fee deposit, which will increase from £2,000 to £3,000. The deposit deadline date will be 30th June.

The deposit will remain at £2,000 for the January 2023 intake, and any deposit payers who were asked to defer from September 2022 to September 2023, will not be required to pay any additional deposit.

We hope you understand the decision to prioritise deferred deposit payers for the January 2023 intake. Due to unprecedented levels of demand, we have subsequently had to take this difficult decision to close to new January 2023 applications now in order to satisfy individual course capacity limits, and to continue to ensure an exceptional student experience.

If you have any questions please contact your In-Country team, relevant Regional Manager, or email us at international@stir.ac.uk

Best wishes
